A Treasury of Wisdom

Animals have learning abilities.
This is an instinct that was given as the wisdom to survive.
For example, if we do an experiment of making rats run through a labyrinth, we notice that there are differences in intelligence among them.
The same applies to people. Wiser people learn many things from one mistake.
Less wise people repeat the same mistakes many times because they cannot learn from them.
Wise people have twice the learning ability. They can learn not only from their own experiences but also from those of others by listening to them.
It is often said that the wise learn even from fools. Wise people have good ears by which they seriously listen to what other people say. Those who can
learn many things by carefully listening to others will become wiser as they grow older. Eventually, good listeners will become totally different people when compared to those who continue to listen to others absentmindedly.
The young should learn many things through bitter experiences of their own.
As to the old, they are advised to try to be a good listener and learn all kinds of things from others. After learning many things the elderly will surely be valued more as a treasury of wisdom.

People who inattentively listen to others will become hard of hearing. The fact that people become hard of hearing when they grow old might be advice from nature to become better listeners and better learners as they grow old.
