| Are you aware that you are always absorbing all sorts of feelings? Some people store up dissatisfaction, while others absorb joy. Some people incessantly feed on hatred and ill will, while others take in sincerity and compassion. Since the human mind is wide open, people unknowingly accumulate feelings of one type or another, all day, every day. It is particularly frightening if you are continually absorbing feelings of anxiety. Soon you are not able to sleep soundly at night and eventually you will fall sick due to excessive stress. On the other hand, if you absorb feelings of joy, the way children do, your facial expression will become cheerful and you will become healthier, both mentally and physically. Quite naturally, your speech will become gentle and you will become more active. Your eyes will shine and you will smile a lot. With every feeling of joy you will be refreshed. This is because the feeling of joy is an honest feeling, like that of a child. But if you regularly feel overwhelmed by hardship in your life, your facial expression will darken because your joyful feelings will be canceled out. Only people who are able to keep battling to overcome life's difficulties can feel joy honestly. Only with open and honest feelings will you be able to be joyful. Just by reciting the words, "I'm happy" three times in your mind, you will find your heart becomes lighter. Amazingly enough, by just doing this, feelings of anxiety, agitation and hatred will evaporate from your mind and you can easily clean your mind this way. According to what I have learned from psychology, it is not true that people cry because they feel sad. Rather, they feel sad because they cry. This means that people can make themselves feel happy by merely telling themselves they are happy. Curiously enough, it took a very long time for mankind to discover such a simple truth. |
