| At schools these days, teachers are making efforts to greatly respect
the individuality of students. However, students often misinterpret this emphasis on individuality and feel that they can freely do whatever they like. As a result, increasing numbers of children are becoming too much for their parents to handle. The misbehavior of such students is reportedly disrupting many classes at schools throughout the country. Some people question loudly the present-day school education system. Certainly, in our society, it is demanded of people that they have the ability to demonstrate their individuality. Yet, at the same time,it is also demanded that they be able to cooperate with others. If we don't teach children to respect the feelings of others, just as they respect their own feelings, our world will tend further and further toward disintegration and confusion. It is said that the strongest urge of human beings is that for self-realization. Yet, humans cannot live successfully if they do nothing but assert their individuality. A real society is one where you can live only through the grace of others' help, rather than one where all other people exist to serve you.Living a self-centered life could lead you to commit crimes. You can make the most of yourself only after you can make use of your ability for the sake of others. School education should focus on teaching this principle to students. Unless spiritual education, where not only cultivating the students' talents but also encouraging a spirit of service to others are taught, is fully practiced, our school education system will only be supplying society with egocentric people who do nothing but assert their selfish interests, sometimes violently. |
