| By haughtiness here I mean arrogance. Haughtiness positions its possessor one step above others and he looks down on them. Such a person also treats others as lesser beings, makes light of them and holds them in contempt. Haughty people will reveal a heartless attitude toward others and their hearts gradually become colder and colder. It is important to have self-confidence and pride. But a person who looks down on others is a bad person. If we derive pleasure from feelings of superiority, we cause others to feel inferior and gloomy which makes them feel unhappy. Haughty people are incapable of feeling the pain of others. Such people cannot sympathize with others and weep for them. In parallel, by humility I mean people who are humble. Humility positions its possessor one step below others and allows them to respect others. People with such an attitude treat others as greater and seek to learn something from them. They think highly of others, respects their feelings and treat them kindly. Humble people are warmhearted, so humility shows itself in humane feelings for others. With such an attitude we can feel happy when we see happiness in others and feel sad when others are sad. Humble people can hear what others want to say without them actually saying anything. It is a gentle person that gives priority to the feelings and convenience of others. A humble person is an obedient and gentle person. With such an attitude we can position ourselves and remain at a level below that of others. And we can, from the bottom of our hearts, thank others and bow to. People with humility are able to feel gratitude towards others but haughty people cannot. |
| The blessings of friendship, money and health come naturally to people
with humility. The fate of people with haughty minds is to face endless difficulties in the course of their lives. |
